OBERE STUBE
curated by Dr. Julia Wolf
In her new paintings, Fernanda Figueiredo (*1978) creates an imaginary dialog between the Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral (1886–1973) and the Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889–1943). Inspired by the defining styles of these icons of modernism, she combines clear geometrical forms with vivid organic motifs. At the heart of the exhibition is the question of influence and artistic connection: Art is never created in isolation but through an exchange with other artistic and social environments. Fernanda Figueiredo’s works demonstrate how reception and remix lead to new forms of expression. Her approach is shaped by the Brazilian Movimento Antropofágico—the creative incorporation of cultural influences.
